Cheltenham Premier Inn wall collapses as car left smashed
A chunk of wall at a hotel in Cheltenham came crashing down on Saturday, narrowly missing a family with young children. Witnesses took to social media just before 4.30pm after what appeared to be rendering fell towards the pavement below from the Premier Inn on Henrietta Street.
The rendering, which would have appeared above the Premier Inn sign, landed on the back of a car as a family made their way over a zebra crossing, according to an eyewitness. According to commenters on a Facebook post from 288 Bar & Wok, no-one was injured.
Elizabeth Holloway, who was at the scene when the wall crashed down, said the incident happened at 4pm. She said: “A car was letting a family cross the zebra crossing when a part of the wall came off, landing on the back of the car and smashing the window. Nobody was hurt but could have easily been.”

The rear window of the car was smashed. However, the wall had missed the family, including young children, who were walking across the crossing, and the occupants of the vehicle were uninjured.
288 Bar & Wok said that Henrietta Street was closed in the aftermath of the incident. It advised customers to park in the car park opposite the hotel instead of near the scene.
The incident came as Storm Bert battered Gloucestershire and beyond , bringing strong winds and rain. Many roads are flooded, events cancelled and power cuts are affecting the region.
