Chemical Leak At Holiday Park Swimming Pool

A total of 37 people have been treated by paramedics following a chemical leak in a holiday park swimming pool.

Emergency services - including an air ambulance - were called to Wild Duck Holiday Park, in Belton, near Great Yarmouth, just after 2.30pm on Sunday.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokeswoman said those being treated were suffering from breathing problems.

"We are currently assessing and monitoring 29 patients at the site who are suffering with breathing problems, none of whom are thought to be serious condition," she said.

"In addition, eight patients have been taken to the James Paget Hospital with asthma and breathing problems, all of whom were in a stable condition.

"Ambulance crews continue to work closely with both police and fire colleagues."

A Norfolk Police statement said the pool had now been declared safe.

"The immediate area was evacuated and a 20 metre cordon put in place," the statement said.

Haven Holidays spokesman Tom Cassidy earlier said those treated included a three-year-old child.

"There was a chemical leak in the swimming pool in the entertainment complex and it was evacuated while police and fire and rescue were on their way.

"The casualties have been described to me as walking wounded. Obviously the park is now in lockdown while they try and source the chemical leak."

A spokesman for the holiday park told Sky News that while it could not be confirmed the leak was chlorine, it was the most likely source of the contamination.
