Cher has given her verdict on having her life and career turned into a musical, describing it as “nerve-wracking” to see her most personal moments acted out.

The showbiz icon’s life has spawned Broadway hit The Cher Show, which the songstress admits she is yet to see in full.

Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, she said: “I have seen a piece of it and will see it all in Chicago.

“It was a bit nerve-wracking to see so many personal things portrayed that you thought was a good idea to talk about once but, to see it on stage, you just want to stick needles in your eyes.”

The musical encompasses 35 hits over six decades of stardom with a Grammy, an Oscar and an Emmy all to her name.

And the musical may have more to add still as the 72-year-old also told the Irish chat show host that she “doesn’t know when she will stop” touring and working.

Despite having previously said she was done with life on the road, Cher said: “Who knew I would be touring at my age. No one expects to be working at 72 and I didn’t think I’d be doing it.

“I don’t have a number [of the age she’ll stop] in my head.”

Cher stars in upcoming flick Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, alongside Lily James and Amanda Seyfried, as Meryl Streep’s character’s mum

Talking about her casting, Cher revealed she didn’t have much of a say in the matter as her agent called with the news.

She laughed: “My agent called me and said, ‘You’re in the new Mamma Mia film’ and then hung up. I didn’t have much choice!”

Also on the sofa on Friday evening was Rupert Everett, Christine Baranski, Natalie Dormer and Tom Odell, who performed live.

The Graham Norton Show airs Friday 22 June at 10.45pm on BBC One.
