Cher is 'not finished' and will be back for a US tour

Cher is back on the road next year for a series of US performances, saying that, at 70, she "can't imagine not working".

The iconic singer has told fans she is not yet prepared to bid farewell, and announced a new residency tour through Las Vegas and Maryland.

"Someday, I will be finished," she said.

"That's really what I've said to myself, 'Someday, you won't be able to do this, but you're able to right now.'"

The new tour is called Classic Cher because, she explained, "I'm going to try and distil my career".

"Let everybody remember and see who I was, what I did, and try not to disappoint people," she said.

"I hate it if I go to a concert and they don't do the songs I want to hear".

The pop legend's residency will feature both revival performances and new takes on classic songs - and feature some of her signature outlandish outfits.

The singer also spoke her mind on the upcoming US presidential election, expressing strong views on Donald Trump.

"He has said things that are so base and so vile and so without respect for humanity," the artist said.

"Nothing is beneath him, and lies mean nothing to him, and women mean nothing to him, and America means nothing to him".

Cher has been a vocal critic of Mr Trump on her Twitter page, but said she was trying not to get too involved.

"Well I watch him anyway because you have to see what the enemy is doing but I can't fathom it," she said.

"I don't understand it. I just can't figure it. It's like Brexit, I couldn't figure it either".

Cher's residency launches at the Park Theatre at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas on 8 February.
