Cheryl halts Girls Aloud gig for moving speech about Sarah Harding's love for Newcastle

Cheryl delivered a second emotional speech in as many nights on Saturday, as she halted Girls Aloud's gig in Newcastle to not only talk about her love for the city, but also how much late bandmate Sarah Harding used to enjoy visiting.

After kicking off The Show tour in Dublin last month, the Brit Award winners are on Tyneside all weekend, for three packed out shows at the Utilita Arena and, having began their stint in serious style on Friday, another near capacity crowd descended on the venue 24 hours later to see Cheryl, Nadine, Kimberley and Nicola in action. And after opening things with Untouchable and performing the likes of The Show, Something New, Whole Lotta History and Wake Me Up, Cheryl took the time to speak to her Geordie faithful, in a speech which ended with her mentioning Sarah.

Cheryl told the audience: "To see loads of smiling Geordies smiling back at you. You You only see on this stage, I see thousands and thousands of you having the best time. Newcastle has always been one our favourite cities, not just mine, the entire group. Even Sarah absolutely loved coming to Newcastle because she'd have a good night out on the Toon!"

She added: "It's really good for my soul to be here. So, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for all the love and support you've shown me and us over the years. It's means the world and I could never put that into words so thank you. Is there anywhere better than the North East on a sunny Saturday?!"

Before Friday's gig, Nadine took to Instagram to share a photo of herself and Sarah from the last time Girls Aloud were in Newcastle on their Ten tour in 2013 and wrote: "This was the last time Sarah & i were in this arena together!!! This was when we finished the show & stayed laughing in our dresses!!"

She added: "We are here again tonight & thinking about this time i was lucky enough to get to spend with Sarah!!! When they say love like there is no tomorrow, it makes so much more sense now!!"
