Cheshire gastropub rated among best in UK less than a year after opening

A Cheshire bar and grill which has been open less than a year is celebrating after being recognised in the Good Food Awards. The Orange Tree in Congleton was successful in the gastropub category of the annual awards.

The venue, which opened on November 28 last year, has been recognised with a Blue Ribbon prize - given to eateries with high customer ratings and votes. At the time of the launch, we reported that £1m had been spent on the refurbishment of the former Cheshire Tavern.

The Orange Tree, on West Road, serves an extensive range of gourmet food and cocktails across its two storey Grade II listed building. Parogon is the owner of The Orange Tree venues, as well as other restaurants across Staffordshire and Cheshire, such as The Wayfarer, Broughton Arms, Willow, and The Swan with Two Necks.

Directors Phil Sharp, Rich Colclough, James Keates, David Myers and Chris Cook decided for the first time to duplicate a concept, as the company usually gives new eateries its own individual name.

The restaurant is rated four out of five on Tripadvisor with 133 of the 203 reviewers giving it top marks. One recent review, submitted by Linda W, states: "The service this evening was impeccable. All staff were extremely lovely, and the food was wonderful, I will definitely be returning."
