The delightful Waltzing Matilda boat, a much-loved narrowboat café known for serving up delicious homemade pizzas and cakes, has announced that it will open for the summer season. Located on the Macclesfield Canal with its stunning scenic views, the floating café is a favourite amongst locals since opening its hatches three years ago.

The Waltzing Matilda bobs between Stockport and Cheshire, charming visitors with its distinctive location-hopping trait each weekend. The inventive café is steered by the father-son duo, Paul and Chris Edwards, who recently graced television screens through Channel 4's Narrow Escapes series.

Since its airing, the show documenting lifestyles of those swapping houses for a waterside living has been a hit among viewers.

In what promises to be a bustling start to the summer season in sync with the release of their TV series, The Waltzing Matilda will commence serving mouth-watering wood-fired pizzas and freshly baked goods on Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2.

Through a social media post signalling their imminent re-opening, the duo expressed their excitement: "Just a quick announcement with some exciting news. We've been overwhelmed with the amazing response from our last announcement and following our appearance on @channel4 narrow escapes program.", reports the Manchester Evening News.

The anticipation of where the café might drop its anchor on the inaugural weekend adds to the excitement, as the specifics remain under wraps due to the business's lasting element of surprise. They assure that details about the cafe's whereabouts will soon be revealed, with demand expected to sail high.

In their announcement on The Waltzing Matilda social media page, the creators shared: "The location is being planned as we speak, we will open bookings once we find the perfect spot, bookings will be taken through our website, bookings will be highly, highly advised for this weekend as we expect it will be busy!"

They relayed that besides their pizza offerings, the café will host a selection of baked goods from Prestwich-based Weenie Bakes, along with hot beverages provided by Cheshire's Kickback Coffee Roasters. Started during the pandemic, The Waltzing Matilda was conceptualized by Paul, who spent years living on the boat, and his son Chris.

They aspired to incorporate a pizza oven aboard their boat.

After preparing them in their uniquely designed pizza oven situated at one end of the boat, pizzas are passed out through a hatch, where patrons can retrieve their orders before finding seating nearby along towpaths where the boat has dropped anchor.

Upon seeing the news on social media, excited customers could hardly contain their eagerness to try the new café. One excited fan responded: "Yesssss, we've been waiting for this! ! " Another enthused: "will definitely have to do this."
