Chester Zoo is offering people 20% off entry into the attraction this weekend but there is a catch. Following the success of last year the zoo is hosting its second Run for Nature - a 10k race around the zoo.

The race, for the over 16s, will start off in the zoo and head out on the country lanes around the wider estate. There is also a one mile Zoom for four to 15-year-old's which is based all in the zoo.

This year’s event takes place on World Rhino Day, and money is being raised for vital work to protect the endangered species. Runners taking part in the 10k will get entry into the zoo to enjoy the rest of the day after the event and a 20% discount will also be offered for supporters too.

A spokesperson for Chester Zoo said: "Here at Chester Zoo, a key element of our conservation work is saving the rhino from extinction, both here at our Chester hub and around the world. This year, with Run for Nature taking place on World Rhino Day, we’re raising money for this vital work to protect this incredible animal.

"Eastern black rhino and greater one horned rhino, the two species that we are working to protect are both at risk of extinction due to habitat loss and poaching. With numbers incredibly low across the globe, our science team have developed ground-breaking techniques to help boost populations. This work is now being rolled out around the world, including through our new lab in Kenya to help this magnificent animal thrive in the future. We need your support to continue this vital work and help us bring rhinos back from the brink of extinction.

"Anyone who takes part will get a sustainable wooden medal and anyone who raises over £65 for our cause will receive a cuddly rhino toy, PLUS there are some great prizes for our top fundraisers such as a family membership and even an animal experience."

Entry to the race is £38 for adults and £15 for the children’s race. The adult run is scheduled to start at 8.30am and the children’s ‘zoom’ at 8.45am. Participants are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes before their timed run. More information can be found on the Chester Zoo website.
