Chicago returns to London's West End: 27 people you never knew starred in the musical

A star-studded production of classic musical Chicago opens next week (March 26) and, let’s be honest - we had it coming.

Ebb and Kander’s musical, which innovatively brings together criminals with jazz hands, ran for almost 15 years the last time it was in the West End and now it’s back after almost six years away.

Cuba Gooding Jr will play silver-tongued lawyer Billy Flynn, a man tasked with helping wannabe starlet Roxie Hart quite literally get away with murder.

He’s not the first celeb to step into the musical’s famed shoes - a whole host of stars have been giving us the old razzle dazzle throughout the show’s long history.

David Hasselhoff, Tony Hadley, Jerry Springer and Marti Pellow have previously tried their luck as Billy Flynn, and Denise Van Outen, Jill Halfpenny, Jennifer Ellison, Claire Sweeney, Ashlee Simpson, Frances Ruffelle, Michelle Williams and Brooke Shields are just a few of the stars who have played Roxie Hart.

In the new production, Ruthie Henshall plays Mama Morton, making her the first actress to have played the three main female parts (she’s also played Roxie and Velma Kelly).

To celebrate the new production, we’re looking back at past stars who’ve trod the boards and gone behind bars.
