Chiefs coach Greg Lewis on shoving Ronnie Harrison: 'I need to be a better example'

Kansas City Chiefs running backs coach Greg Lewis is remorseful after shoving Cleveland Browns safety Ronnie Harrison during a game. Lewis spoke about the incident Thursday, saying he needs "to be a better example."

Lewis talked to the NFL and head coach Andy Reid, and assured both entities the situation "is not going to happen again."

Lewis was ejected from the team's Week 1 win over the Browns after shoving Harrison with five minutes to go in the first quarter. The incident occurred after a play. Lewis believed Harrison intentionally stepped on a Chiefs running back as Harrison was getting up after a play. Lewis pushed Harrison, and Harrison responded with a shove of his own. Harrison was ejected from the contest, but Lewis was allowed to continue coaching.

Greg Lewis, Ronnie Harrison fined for actions

Both Lewis and Harrison were fined for their actions in the days following the contest, a 33-29 win by the Chiefs. Harrison received a $12,128 fine. The amount of Lewis' fine was not disclosed.

There was confusion over the situation, as it was initially reported Lewis escaped with a warning. Browns center — and NFLPA president — J.C. Tretter called for Lewis to be held to a higher standard since he is a coach. Tretter later confirmed Lewis received a fine from the league.

Lewis and Harrison were not suspended, and both men were available for their teams in Week 2.
