Child dies in Surrey after being struck by falling tree branch

A child has died after being struck by a falling tree branch in Surrey, police have said. Emergency services were called out on Saturday afternoon (November 9).

The Met Police said the incident happened in Grove Place, near to the junction with Carshalton Road, at around 4pm. Police, paramedics and firefighters all attended.

The child is understood to have died from their injuries at the scene. In a statement, the Met said officers are in the process of ensuring that all family members have been informed.

Police said: "Emergency services were called shortly after 1600hrs on Saturday, 9 November, to a child struck by a falling tree branch in Grove Place near the junction with Carshalton Road, Banstead.

"Officers attended along with London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service. Sadly, the child died from their injuries.

"Officers are in the process of ensuring that all family members have been informed. The incident is not believed to be suspicious, however enquiries continue to establish the circumstances.

"A report will be prepared for the coroner in due course."
