Child narrowly escapes death after picking up remains of a pipe bomb in Derry

A six-year-old boy has narrowly escaped being killed after he picked up the remains of a detonated pipe bomb in Derry.
Police in Northern Ireland say the child found the detonated bomb in a garden of a house in Curley Way, Clooney Estate in Northern Ireland.
The boy discovered the explosive device while playing outside at teatime and brought it inside to his mother and toddler twin sisters.

Police in Northern Ireland have called those behind the attack “completely reckless”.
Martin Reilly, the SDLP leader of Derry Strabane Council, said those responsible “should be brought to justice”.

“This was a terrifying ordeal for his parents and indeed for him as a young child.
“Nobody wants to see these types of activities happening on our streets.

The incident comes less than two months after a pipe bomb exploded in the front garden of a house in Derry.
