Child stabbed in Manchester city centre horror attack

A boy was rushed to hospital after being stabbed near a tram stop in Manchester city centre. At around 8.15pm today (on Monday, August 12), police and paramedics arrived on the scene on Portland Street, following reports of a knife attack.

The victim, whose age has not been disclosed, was taken to hospital where he is currently receiving treatment. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

According to the Manchester Evening News, a number of police vehicles attended the incident near to Piccadilly Gardens, with the main road taped off for a number of hours while investigations into the attack took place. There is a large cordon in place, which stretches from the Jamboree restaurant to the junction at Aytoun Street. Buses have been diverted due to the closure.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 8.15pm this evening (Monday 12 August 2024), we were called to reports of a stabbing on Portland Street in the city centre. A boy has been taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are described as not-life threatening. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
