When is Children in Need 2017? Start time, song, hosts plus everything else you need to know

BBC’s charity extravaganza is back, with the usual host of celebrities and TV stars joining forces to help raise money.

As ever there’ll be a big televised appeal to generate funds, here’s everything you need to know about Children in Need 2017.

What is it about?

Children in Need is the BBC’s official charity. Each year the broadcaster holds a telethon which is the highlight of a few weeks of fundraising activities.

The show usually lasts for several hours and features special versions of some of the BBC’s flagship programmes including Strictly Come Dancing and EastEnders.

Craig Revel Horwood will be giving viewers a sneak preview of his role as Miss Hannigan in West End musical Annie, with a performance of one of the songs from the show.

The EastEnders castmembers will also be showing off their singing skills with a musical medley in The Square.

There will also be reminders of the good work the charity does for disadvantaged children and regular updates as to the amount of money raised.

Who will be hosting the show?

There are no less than six presenters pitching in over the course of the evening’s entertainment. Tess Daly and Ade Adepitan are first up, followed by Graham Norton and Mel Giedroyc, before Rochelle and Marvin Homes round off the programme by revealing the evening’s grand total.

What is the 2017 Children in Need single?

Each year an artist releases a single to help raise money for the charity. This year’s track is a cover of Fields of Gold by Katie Melua. Previous songs have included All We Needed by Craig David and Take Me Home by Jess Glynne.

Who does the money go to?

The money raised for Children in Need goes to a variety of charities across the UK These include hospices, support groups for disabled and disadvantaged children, children’s homes and family projects.

How can you get involved?

Aside from tuning into the telethon and donating, you can show your support for Children In Need by organising a charity event (see here for more information), listening to the official single, or by wearing some of the charity’s Pudsey Bear merchandise. When is it on?

The show kicks off on Friday, November 17 at 7.30pm on BBC One, with a switch over to BBC Two for the Weakest Link Celebrity special, before resuming on the original channel at 10.40 pm.
