Children prepare for visit of Papal Nuncio to Motherwell and welcome mass

North Lanarkshire will welcome the Papal Nuncio His Excellency Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendia this week.

The Papal Nuncio represents the Vatican State and speaks in the name of the Pope.

A Mass of Welcome will take place on Friday, August 30 at Motherwell Cathedral.

Prior to the visit, Provost Kenneth Duffy and Michael McBride, Convener of Education, paid a visit to Cathedral Primary School in Motherwell to speak with pupils about this momentous occasion.

Welcomed by Head Teacher Graeme Young and Claire O'Neill, Diocese RE Coordinator, the Provost and Convener spoke to the pupils and house captains who will attend a Mass of Welcome on Friday at Motherwell Cathedral.

The pupils have been diligently preparing for the visit under the guidance of Father Lamb.

Provost Duffy said: "It's inspiring to see the enthusiasm and dedication of these young people as they prepare for such a significant visit.

"The school has such a warm and friendly environment, and I'm grateful to all the staff and pupils for extending such a warm welcome when we visited. The pupils are wonderful representatives of their community.

"I'm looking forward to joining representatives from schools across North Lanarkshire at the Mass of Welcome for this historic occasion."

Mr Graeme Young , Head Teacher at Cathedral Primary said: "We were delighted to welcome the Provost and Convener to our school and showcase the learning the pupils have been working on to prepare for Papal Nuncio's visit.

The Papal Nuncio will visit North Lanarkshire from Friday, August 30, to Sunday, September 1.

Highlights of his visit include a Mass of Welcome at Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral and an outdoor Mass at Carfin Grotto, which everyone in the community is invited to attend.
