China launches world's first vaccine passport scheme

China has introduced "virus passports" in a bid to boost international travel, after its tourism sector took a 70 percent hit from the pandemic. The United States and the European Union are also considering similar programmes. But first, amid concerns over China's widening vaccine diplomacy in the developing world, four major economies in the Asia-Pacific region – the US, Japan, India and Australia – are having their first virtual summit to discuss regional cooperation and countering Beijing's economic influence.
