The recent craze for unmissably ‘blinged-up’ cars has seen owners go to all sorts of lengths to get their motor noticed.

Perhaps taking inspiration from the London Mercedes owner who covered their car in fake diamonds, this driver in China went for a more affordable option.

Lok Tuan, 27, wanted to give his Volkswagen a ‘hip hop makeover’, but clearly wasn’t keen on blowing the budget.

So instead, he used superglue to plaster the entire bodywork in shiny coins worth less than one pence each.

His VW is covered from bumper to boot in thousands of half-Yuan coins which he ‘had lying around in jars'.

Lok, from Xiamen, Fujian Province, said: ‘I love all the ostentatious flashiness of diamonds and gold but there was no way I could afford any of that so this seemed like a good solution.'

After buying four tubes of super glue, Lok set about lovingly sticking thousands of the half-Yuan coins onto his car.

He admitted: 'It took days and days.'

'I had to be really careful about it too, as I didn’t want to stick them in the wrong place, nor stick my fingers together trying to put the glue on.'

Lok says he’s delighted with the result (it’s his own opinion that’s important we suppose) - and he even reckons he’s pulling in the ladies thanks to his unique vehicle.

He added: 'When I drive around town, I can see all the girls looking at me and it’s really cool.

His friend Dong Tang, also 27, said: 'It certainly is quite something, especially when it’s sunny and the light reflects off the coins.

'In fact it’s quite dazzling. I hope he doesn’t cause an accident.'
