And The Chinese Nobel Peace Prize Goes To.... Zimbabwean Dictator Robert Mugabe?!?

Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe may be best known for the brutal repression of his own people during his 28-year reign of terror.

But it seems that the ailing despot still has some fans in the world after he was awarded “The Confucius Prize” - the Chinese version of the Nobel Peace prize.

He was handed the gong for his apparent work in promoting “African peace,” according to i100.

The 91-year-old was also hailed for "overcoming a number of difficulties. Contributing to building the government, economy, and order in the country.”

Mugabe, credited for single-handedly destroying his country’s economy and rigging elections to keep himself in power, was handed a gold Confucius trophy.

And around £10,200 in cash was also presented to the tyrant.

The prize, not officially endorsed by the Chinese government, was established in 2010. Mugabe is in good company with his win, however.

He follows in the footsteps of several other leaders who aren’t exactly known for their human rights records.

Russian President Vladimir Putin scooped the sward in 2011, while former Cuban President Fidel Castro was presented it last year.
