Fire in Chingford: 70 firefighters tackle huge blaze 'at care home'

More than 70 firefighters are battling a huge blaze at what is believed to be a care home in north-east London.

Dramatic images from the scene in Chingford show flames ravaging the building as huge plumes of smoke billow into the sky.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) were called to the site, in Connington Crescent, at about 2.15am on Friday.

Half the ground and first floor was alight, along with the roof of the three-storey block, LFB said.

A witness told the Standard: “The road is totally sealed off, lots of emergency services.

“It’s a care home. Not sure if anyone was trapped inside.”

“It was a big fire but it looks like most of the flames are gone now.”

Twelve people left the flats in Chingford before the arrival of the fire brigade, officials said.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
