Chiswick restaurant 'explosion' sees 6 people rescued from fire

A fire broke out in West London after residents reported hearing an 'explosion' early this morning, Saturday September 21. According to the London Fire Brigade, a fire started in a restaurant on Chiswick High Street, which had living accommodation above it.

Firefighters rushed to Fanoos Persian Restaurant, where they found a fire in the basement of the building. Six people were rescued from the blaze, and were led to safety by firefighters wearing breathing masks.

No one appears to have been injured in the fire, the London Ambulance Service has confirmed to MyLondon. Photos from the scene show furniture on the ground floor of the restaurant covered in smoke, and police cordons in place around the building.

The London Fire Brigade was first called about the fire shortly after 1am. Crews from Chiswick, Acton and Hammersmith fire stations all raced to the scene.

Around 25 firefighters were needed to tackle the fire, which was extinguished by 2.15am. The full statement from the London Fire Brigade says: "Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a restaurant with dwellings above on Chiswick High Road in Chiswick.

"Part of the basement was destroyed by the fire. Around six people were led to safety by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

"There are currently no reports of any injuries. Control Officers took the first of 4 calls regarding the fire at 0103 and mobilised crews from Chiswick, Acton and Hammersmith fire stations to the scene. The fire was extinguished by 0215."

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
