Chloe Madeley looks back on that time mum Judy Finnigan flashed awards show
It was one of the most famous moments in Judy Finnigan’s TV career - the presenter stepped up on stage to accept a National Television Award, but her dress slipped down and exposed her entire bra.
However, rather than finding the incident cringeworthy, her daughter Chloe Madeley has said seeing her mum flash the ceremony on TV helped her learn to laugh at herself and inspired her body confidence.
Madeley spoke to The Sun on Sunday about her memories of seeing mum Finnigan and dad Richard Madeley on stage at the National Television Awards in 2000 after winning a prize, with Finnigan completely oblivious to the fact that her dress had fallen down below her bra.
The show’s host John Leslie had to step in and cover her up, but despite watching the embarrassing drama unfold as a 13-year-old, Madeley said it didn’t traumatise her.
She said: “My older brother was like, ‘No, no, no, no, no, no’, obviously having a complete meltdown.”

But the fitness enthusiast and personal trainer said that all she had cared about was that her mum was ok and was relieved to see her laughing it off.
Madeley told how she had called her parents immediately afterwards - and had been impressed by her mum’s laid back reaction.
She said: “She was like, ‘Oh, it’s fine. It’s funny. Thank God I was wearing a bra. Imagine if I hadn’t been’.”
Adding that it was important to be able to laugh at yourself if you were going to live your life in the public eye, Madeley said that her parents’ attitude had shaped her own views on revealing photo shoots and her view of herself.
She said: “I’ve generally got no shame. I really like doing sexy shoots, I love just prancing around in my underwear, and I’ve learned from my parents not to take myself too seriously.”
