Choir Sings Civil-Rights Song During #CloseTheCamps Protest in New York

Demonstrators gathered outside the Middle Collegiate Church in New York City on Tuesday, July 2, as part of nationwide protests against the detention of migrant children at facilities on the US-Mexico border.

This footage was tweeted by Drea Herrera, an organizer at the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU), and shows members of the Resistance Revival Chorus signing the African American civil-rights song Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around on the church steps.

Describing the event, Herrera wrote: “We gathered to protest and call upon US Congress to STOP the cruel and inhumane conditions of immigrant detention centers at the border.”
