Chris Davies makes Birmingham City point post-Wrexham and details A-Listers message to players
Chris Davies hailed Birmingham City’s 3-1 win over Wrexham as their best performance of the season.
Blues excelled at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park in front of an A-List directors’ box to move up to second in League One, behind Wrexham only on goal difference having played a game less. Debutants Jay Stansfield (2) and Tomoki Iwata struck for Blues to cancel out Jack Marriott’s third minute opener.
“As I’ve said a few times, for us it’s about making sure the performances are there and we play well,” said Davies. “If we do that we will get the outcomes that we want, which is results obviously.
“The performance was excellent. It was probably the best we’ve played for the longest period in a game this season.”

Stansfield grabbed the headlines with a brace on his second league debut for the club. The summer signing, who is Blues’ and League One’s costliest ever player, netted either side of half-time.
Davies commented: “From Jay’s point of view, he scored a real striker’s finish on the first one, an instinctive finish. And for the second one you have to give massive credit to Alex Cochrane. He’s picked him out with a great cross but it wasn’t an easy chance from that angle.
“It wasn’t just the goals, there’s more to it than that. It’s not about who gets the goals, it’s about what they contribute, but I am pleased for Jay.”
Blues’ performance on the pitch matched all the razzmatazz off it. In the blue corner of the directors’ box was Tom Brady and special guest David Beckham, in the red corner was Hollywood actor and Wrexham owner Rob McElhenney.
Blues rolled out the blue carpet for their guests, but Davies was never going to let them do the same for Wrexham.
“I really don’t pay any attention to that stuff,” he said. “I had no idea what was going on and who was going to be here because that’s not my domain. What’s important is what we do in training and how we approach the games.
“I’m pleased for the club that we’ve had the right kind of attention that we deserve. All that stuff for me is no real interest.
“It was something I did address with the players that this was something going on but that’s not our domain, our domain is the pitch and what we do. It’s about focussing on the performance and the external stuff is irrelevant to us.
“It’s true, they’ll follow the social media and they’ll know the attention and hype around the game, but I didn’t see any change at all from a concentration point of view or any pressure. As I say, if anything it made us better because it was all-round our best performance of the season.”
