Captain America and Black Widow have buddied up on numerous occasions throughout the Marvel films - and made a damn fine team, we might add.

But following three films centred on Cap, actor Chris Evans has questioned why the favour hasn't been returned for Scarlett Johansson's character.

Speaking to ELLE, the actor said of a potential solo Black Widow film: "It would really just clean up, wouldn't it?

"Scarlett [Johansson] is so good at everything she does. She's played such a crucial part in the other films.

"She always makes her presence so felt – even when there are 50 different superheroes running around onscreen.

"I wouldn't be surprised if that happens at some point in the future. I'm sure Scarlett would be open to it."

As would we!

But for now, we'll have to settle for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor Ragnarok - in that order - before we see the Avengers reunite in 2018 with Avengers: Infinity War.

We're sure Scarlett could make room in her busy schedule to spin a web or two without the men getting involved, though.

Johansson most recently starred in Ghost in the Shell as the Major - a human who is cyber-enhanced to be a perfect soldier devoted to stopping the world's most dangerous criminals.

However, her casting didn't come without controversy. Many critics labelled it an example of Hollywood's whitewashing problem, as in the original manga, the Major is Asian.
