Chris Evans Claims His Top Gear Will Be ‘More Inclusive’ Than Jeremy Clarkson’s Original

Chris Evans has been discussing his highly anticipated new series of Top Gear, claiming that his version of the show will be ‘more inclusive’ than when original host Jeremy Clarkson was in charge.

He also explained that he and Matt LeBlanc will be the main hosts, with the others - Sabine Schmitz, Chris Harris, Rory Reid, Eddie Jordan and The Stig - coming in and out as required.

Though they still haven’t all been together yet, with Eddie away at the moment, they have filmed their first challenge, pitting the UK against the USA in a race from London to Blackpool in Reliant Rialtos.

Easy, right?

Speaking about the ‘more inclusive’ new series, Chris told The Mirror: “The film we made up in the north of Britain over the last few days, I counted there are 36 other people, other than Matt and I, in those films on camera, so we’re going to be much more inclusive.

“If there’s something or someone applicable to the car that will be in the film, whereas before it was a lot more blinkered, so we are opening this up.”

He added: “We’ve got a road trip and some very well known co-drivers coming with us next week … but they all love cars, they adore cars. So it’s cars first, name second.”

Chris and Matt won’t be trying to emulate former hosts Jeremy, James May and Richard Hammond though, telling the BBC that they’re respectful and mindful of the show.

Asked if they would be trying to capture some of the feel of the previous presenters, Chris said: “That would be stupid. It would be like trying to be Paul McCartney. There’s no point. There is only one Paul McCartney.”

Matt added: “Those three guys are those three guys and they were great and they still will continue to be great. I hope their new show is a success.”
