As Disney and Fox move closer on those big takeover talks, fans of superhero cinema are on tenterhooks to see what happens next.
There are some pretty tantalising movie options if Disney gets hold of the likes of the X-Men. However, Captain America himself has a fun idea for what Kevin Feige and co. should do with the Fantastic Four's Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch.
Taking to Twitter, 36-year-old Evans suggested that he put on some flame retardant clothing to play the Human Torch again. The difference is, this time it would be a buddy comedy... alongside himself.
So who do I talk to about a Cap/Human Torch buddy comedy spin-off? I’m thinking Planes, Trains and Automobiles meets Parent Trap. https://t.co/3KRPZOVzq2- Chris Evans (@ChrisEvans) December 6, 2017
If you remember, long before Evans was hurling his shield as Cap, he played Storm in Fox's Fantastic Four (2005) and sequel Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007).
Neither film did particularly well at the box office, but at least it wasn't as bad as Josh Trank's Fant4stic which has left Reed Richards' superpowered team in something of a limbo since 2015.
If the House of Mouse takes over Fox, it means that hundreds of comic book characters that Marvel once sold off would find themselves united under the might of the MCU umbrella.
It wouldn't just be Evans playing the Human Torch that would make this movie hot property – the chance to reinvent the Fantastic Four (again) is something that audiences have been dying to see.
Just as long as a Marvel/Fox union doesn't involve the return of Trank's maligned imagining of the Fantastic Four with Michael B. Jordan as Storm, it isn't too hard to see a brighter future for the Human Torch.
With doubts over how much longer Evans will stick around in the MCU, casting him as two leads may be one way to keep him on Disney's side.
