Chris Froome helps fan propose after fourth Tour de France win

Chris Froome made his historic Tour de France win a particularly special moment for one set of loved-up fans.

The cyclist ditched immediate victory celebrations after crossing the finish line in Paris - helping an onlooker propose to his girlfriend instead.

Froome approached a man minutes after getting off his bike.

"I've been carrying this around for months with me," he told the fan, producing a small box.

"That's yours," he said, handing it over.

The male fan turned to his partner, who watched the exchange in disbelief.

"It's pretty heavy," Froome quipped, as the man got down on one knee.

The woman put her hands over her mouth in shock.

Sky Sports presenter Orla Chennaoui recorded the shock engagement, writing on Twitter: "And she said yes!!! Congratulations guys!"

Froome is seen walking away talking to other fans as the happy couple embrace and kiss.

The Team Sky rider became Britain's first four-time winner of the Tour de France when he crossed the finish line on Sunday.

He triumphed in 2013, 2015 and 2016, sealing his latest title by finishing 54 seconds ahead of Colombia's Rigoberto Uran.
