Chris Hemsworth is gearing up to play one of WWE's greatest ever athletes, Hulk Hogan.

Ever since his rise to stardom via the route through Asgard, Hemsworth has been netting some really tasty characters for his CV – most recently the despicable cult leader Billy Lee in Bad Times at the El Royale.

However, this new endeavour will hark back to his biopic experience in 2013's Rush, although Hogan is unlike any character he's previously brought to the screen.

The news of Hemsworth's casting comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which also notes that director Todd Phillips, who's currently working with Joaquin Phoenix on Joker, will be calling the shots on this one.

Described as a Hogan origin story – more towards the years of the Hulkster and Hulkamania – this biopic will apparently ignore the legendary wrestler's more controversial actions of recent times.

Hemsworth and Phillips will be graced by Hogan's presence during the development of this movie, too, since he's attached as a consultant and executive producer.

The Thor actor has plenty of other thrilling movies lined up for release this year, with Avengers: Endgame and Men in Black: International set to keep his fans happy until he finally steps into the WWE ring.

There's no word yet on a release date for the Hogan biopic.
