Chris Hughes has expressed his fears over not being able to have a family, in a new BBC documentary.

The Love Island star, who is currently dating Jesy Nelson, was told he had a low sperm count before undergoing an operation on his testicles.

As a result, he decided to freeze some sperm.

Participating in the special documentary about infertility, Hughes said: “I might be infertile. I learnt things about male fertility that really surprised me.

"Fertility is often a subject that guys don’t consider until it might be too late, so I’m hoping this documentary will raise awareness and help men who might be struggling with these issues.”

The reality TV star has been candid about his health and even took part in a live medical examination on This Morning to raise awareness of testicular cancer.

Following his appearance, Chris’ brother Ben examined himself and found a lump that was later diagnosed as cancer.

“What started as an attempt to shed light on an issue that affects so many men turned into an incredibly personal journey for me and my family and has brought me even closer to Ben,” he told the Mirror.

Hughes has previously spoken about his wishes to settle down and start a family with Nelson.

In an interview with the Metro, Hughes said: “I guess we’d be fortunate to have one child, there’s a lot of people out there who don’t have that opportunity.”

Speaking of marriage, Nelson’s boyfriend added: “I think we both want it [to get married].

“I think we found each other, and we have endless respect for each other, I think that’s why our relationship works.

“We’re proper family people, we love each other’s family… I’m ready to settle down and I think she is. I’m traditional.

“I like a nice church wedding and I think Jesy is open to that too. I like traditional things. I’m proper British tradition.”
