A £10,000 donation under the name of a Premier League footballer was made to a GoFundMe for Chris Kaba. Aaron Wan Bissaka's name was used to make a donation less than three weeks ago. The South Londoner joined West Ham this summer in a £15 million transfer from Manchester United.

The GoFundMe, set up to ‘fund emotional care, campaign coordination support and trial costs,’ has received £12,710 in donations, with the bulk of that from someone purporting to be Aaron Bissaka, reports The Express.

Kaba was shot on September 5, 2022, in Streatham by police officer Martyn Blake, who was cleared of his murder during a trial at the Old Bailey which ended on Monday (October 21). The donation was made before Kaba’s ties to ‘one of London’s most dangerous gangs’ were revealed.

On the night of his death, Kaba had refused to stop the car he was driving, which was linked to a shooting, ramming into police cars in a bid to escape. Following the acquittal of Blake, details of Kaba’s criminal history were revealed, which the judge had ruled irrelevant to the case.

They showed that Kaba was a ‘core member’ of ‘one of London’s most dangerous gangs’ called 67, and that he had been involved in a shooting of a rival gang just six days before his death.

Three other men have been convicted over their involvement in the Hackney shooting and are in prison. During the trial, Kaba was named by the judge as the gunman, having shot the victim once in the leg on the nightclub dance floor and once outside as he tried to escape.

The Met also released body-worn footage of the incident which showed Kaba refusing to stop and ramming cars to escape police. PC Blake has said he believed Kaba was trying to run him over when he fired into his head.

Despite this, the case has left people divided, with the prosecution arguing that Kaba’s car was boxed in and no longer a threat when he was shot.

Both the West Ham player and his representatives have been contacted for comment.
