Carriers, the long-forgotten horror film starring Chris Pine, is now available to stream on Netflix.

The 2009 film follows four individuals – played by Pine, Lou Taylor Pucci, Piper Perabo and Emily VanCamp – during a viral pandemic as they aim to survive amidst the ‘World Ender Virus’, which has wiped out much of the planet’s population.

Over 15 years on from its release, where it grossed $5.8 million at the global box office, Carriers is now available for Netflix subscribers in the UK and Ireland, with the horror movie being added to the streaming service today (January 10).

“When a virus threatens to wipe out humanity, Danny (Pucci), his brother Brian (Pine), and their friends Bobby (Perabo) and Kate (VanCamp) set out across the desert in the Southwest, trying to elude the pandemic,” reads the logline. “Over the course of several days, the four friends learn that the darkness within themselves may prove deadlier than any microbe.”

Whilst it may not have made a significant impact at the box office, Carriers – which was directed by Àlex and David Pastor – received generally positive reviews upon its release, with the film currently having an approval rating of 62% from 37 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

You can read a selection of reviews below:

Digital Spy

“A gritty low-budget mix of some of the best bits from Mad Max, Outbreak and Night Of The Living Dead, it ticks all the boxes in a refreshingly snappy 84 minute runtime.”

The Guardian

“Plays like Zombieland's humourless twin: with none of the gags and, unfortunately, not many of its genuine moments of tension.”

TheHorrorShow

“It's not a film about the gradual extinction of humankind – it's actually about the horrible demise of humanity.”

Time Out

“This thoughtful, low-key exploration of our darker survival instincts is too conventional and unfocused to fully engage our emotions.”
