Yahoo News Chris Wood speaks out on Nottingham Forest frustration as he makes vow
Chris Wood is determined to ‘push up the league’ after Nottingham Forest’s opening day draw against Bournemouth.
The New Zealander did not take long to net his first strike of the season with an instinctive finish on 22 minutes - which gave Forest the lead before a late Antoine Semenyo equaliser spoiled the party.
Forest may look back on the result as a winnable fixture - but there is a long way to go before you can pick out results that did not go as planned. The striker admitted - to Forest’s official website - he was frustrated at conceding so late, saying: “To lead for so long in the game and then to give it away in the last moment, you do feel a bit of a downer. But we played well in patches, still lots to improve on and get better throughout the season.”

Despite this, Wood insisted there were a lot of positives to take from the performance. He said: “I think we’ve got a good squad and a good team. We’ve had a great pre-season building up, now we just need to turn that into results on the pitch in the Premier League. We’ve got enough to challenge and push up the league, definitely.”
Wood may have to fight for his place soon. Forest are reportedly interested in signing Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez but an initial offer of £21m fell short of the Rotterdam-based side's valuation of the player. The Mexico international has already scored two times in as many games in the Eredivisie this season.
The 23-year-old is a proven goalscorer - scoring 23 goals in 30 league games last season - who possesses entirely different assets to Wood - who uses his physicality to his advantage.
