Chrissy Teigen has shared a heartbreaking statement, confirming the pre-term death of her third child.

The TV presenter has been updating fans and followers regularly from hospital over the past couple of weeks, explaining the severe complications of her third pregnancy. She had revealed that her placenta was weak and that she had been losing blood. It was during one of these candid updates - for which Teigen is well known and adored - during her bed rest, that she had also let slip that her third child was going to be a boy.

In the early hours of Thursday morning (October 1, 2020), Teigen revealed to her followers the devastating news of her baby's death. Through a series of emotional photos, shared to Instagram from her hospital bed, depicting the TV presenter crying and being comforted by her husband John Legend, Teigen confirmed that she was no longer to carry her baby to term, the blood loss having proven too grave for him to stay alive.

'We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.'

Teigen shared that she and Legend had decided to call their son Jack, writing that their third child will be 'part of our little family, forever'.

'To our Jack - I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you.'

Teigen thanked the fans who had been supporting her and Legend throughout her recent health complications, before also paying tribute to her other children Luna and Miles.

'We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience. But everyday can’t be full of sunshine. On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it.'

Since sharing their painful news, the couple have been inundated with messages of support from friends and fans. Kim Kardashian West wrote that she loved and would be there for the couple, Gabrielle Union did the same. Hailey Bieber commented that she was praying for them and Channing Tatum wrote that he was sending them love.

Teigen followed her statement up with a tweet summarising the surreal reality of her tragic loss.

Teigen and Legend, who have been open about their fertility and pregnancy struggles over the years, announced their pregnancy - the first not conceived through IVF - in the Oscar winner's latest music video back in August.
