Chrissy Teigen, Katy Perry and Piers Morgan are among the celebrities to wade into the Yanny-Laurel debate, which has taken over Twitter.

The internet has been thrown in a storm over the audio clip which went viral overnight, and the stars are equally perplexed.

The recording leaves some people convinced they have heard the word “Yanny”, while others are adamant that it says “Laurel”.

Model Teigen was among the first to join in the conversation surrounding the clip.

Taking to Twitter, the 32-year-old wrote: “It's so clearly laurel. I can't even figure out how one would hear yanny.”

She added: "I just asked my dad what he heard and he said "nothing" and my mom said "rural"."

Wide Awake singer Perry also jumped in on the debate, tweeting: “LAURELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.”

The tweet left fans joking that the singer had been “hacked”.

Meanwhile Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan mocked his “on-screen wife” Susanna Reid and off-screen wife who he declared “nuts” for hearing Yanny.

He wrote: “UPDATE: My wife also hears 'Yanny'. So that's both my wives, on screen & off, who are nuts. It's LAUREL, ffs.”

The debate is reminiscent of one which raged over the colour of a blue and black/white and gold dress in 2015.
