Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke has called on his team-mates to quickly get to grips with new manager Frank de Boer’s tactics.

The Eagles were humbled by Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town as De Boer suffered a comprehensive 3-0 defeat on his Premier League debut.

But Benteke is not making excuses, and said: “We know what to do and we have to do what the manager wants."

“It’s in his DNA - the Dutch want to build from the back.”

De Boer became the latest Premier League boss to implement three at the back, however, his side looked uneasy with the Dutchman’s attempts to overhaul their playing style.

Benteke added: “It’s a new formation but we won’t use that as an excuse because we played a few games with that formation.

“We train and we play like that - so we have to get used to it.

“We have to get used to it as soon as possible because the Premier League has already started.”

Palace travel to Anfield next and Benteke will be hoping that a more settled side will allow him to replicate the form he showed against his former employers last term, when his brace earned a 2-1 win on Merseyside.

It could be a struggle for the south Londoners, however, with forward Wilfried Zaha a doubt for the trip having picked up a potential knee problem during the opening day defeat.
