Mauricio Pochettino was full of praise for Christian Eriksen’s performance in Tottenham’s 4-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain.

The 25-year-old score a 30-yard screamer in the first half as Spurs came from behind to beat the Ligue 1 giants in Florida, in the opening match of their International Champions Cup campaign.

Eriksen admitted after the match that he ‘knew that it was going in’ the moment it left his foot, and understandably so.

Eriksen has developed a habit of conjuring up the sublime under Pochettino, with the Spurs admitting the Dane’s long-range winner against Crystal Palace last season had him ‘running down the touchline’.

Though the match is Orlando was far less significant, Pochettino was quick to praise Eriksen’s effort.

“Yes, ‘Golazo’, that’s what we call him. It was a great goal,” said Pochettino, in an interview with the club’s official website.

“Christian is doing well, both he and Ben Davies played 90 minutes, they are great professionals and it’s important to keep that level and we’ll help them to improve more.”

“It was a very important goal because at that moment, we felt like we were alive.”

And so it proved.

Spurs had fallen behind to Edinson Cavani’s sixth-minute strike before Eriksen resoundingly levelled the match five minutes later.

Eric Dier would get the second before the teams went in level at the break, with Harry Kane and fine strike from Toby Alderweireld saw Spurs run out 4-2 victors.

“Winning is always a good habit,” added Pochettino. “It’s true that today it’s not the most important thing because our priority is not the result but if you win it’s always better. Winning is a habit and we need to keep that and keep the same feeling from how we finished last season.”
