New York Fashion Week is back! And if the optimistic, neon-hued and feather-trimmed spring/summer 2022 collection US designer Christian Siriano sent storming the runway to open the event last night is anything to go by, the city’s designers are set to deliver fashion’s much-missed vivacity in bounds.

Plus-size model-of-the-moment Precious Lee opened and closed a show that was – in typical Siriano style – both ethnically and size-diverse, starting in a neon orange asymmetric suit with matching criss-cross bra, and finishing in a giant tulle skirt of the same sunset hue, paired with a stripy, shimmering bralette-cum-cape.

Between the two, Siriano delivered an unapologetically OTT collection (his fortieth) that demanded we dress up for practically everything; with ruffled neon ballgowns, shimmering polka dot dresses, black lace sheaths and feather trims a mainstay.

A standout was his full-frontal flesh-flashing interpretation of the Elizabeth Hurley-famed pin dress and the pin tops worn of late by Insta-models Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber, and a floor-sweeping lime green taffeta cape that will no doubt re-emerge at the upcoming awards season. Perhaps on Lil’ Kim, Coco Rocha, Katie Holmes or Alicia Silverstone, all of whom were sat front row.

NYFW continues today with shows from Ulla Johnson, Proenza Schouler and Prabal Gurung.
