Christina Applegate Says She ‘Blacked Out’ During Emmys Appearance but ‘Felt Really Beloved’ amid MS Journey

The actress looked back at the moment during an interview with 'Good Morning America' anchor Robin Roberts previewed Monday

Christina Applegate is getting brutally candid about her journey with multiple sclerosis.

In an emotional interview with Good Morning America's Robin Roberts previewed Monday, the actress opened up about the swell of support she's received after publicly disclosing her diagnosis in 2021, revealing that she feels the love from fans.

"The support is wonderful and I’m really grateful," Applegate, 52, told Roberts, admitting that sitting for the chat alongside friend and fellow actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, 42, who also has MS, isn't easy. "I live kind of in hell. I’m not out a lot, so this is feeling a little difficult just for my system."

Applegate and Sigler forged a friendship amid their shared journey with MS, opening up to PEOPLE this week about their remarkable bond.

"MS brought us together," Sigler tells PEOPLE in a sit-down interview with the two actresses for next week's issue.

"We have each other and that's helped us so much," says Applegate.

The Dead to Me actress experienced a swell of support in person back in January, when she appeared on the 2023 Emmy Awards to present the awards for outstanding supporting actress and outstanding lead actress in a comedy series.

Asked by Roberts about whether she was able to take in the moment, Applegate admitted "I actually kind of blacked out."

"People said, ‘Oh you were so funny.’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t even know what I said. Like, I don’t know what I was doing!' " said the Married with Children star. "I got so freaked out that I didn’t even know what was happening anymore."

"I felt really beloved and it was really a beautiful thing," she added.

But the comic actress couldn't help but display her signature sense of humor when it came to the standing ovation she received from the crowd at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

"I’m just going to say this... that audience stood up for everybody…" she joked.

Applegate made similar self-deprecating comments at the Emmys, teasing the applauding audience, "We don't have to applaud every time I do something."

"You're totally shaming me [and my] disability by standing up," she said, generating laughter from the crowd before slyly referencing a popular weight loss drug. "Body not by Ozempic."

Last May, Applegate told Vanity Fair that she does not expect to work as an actor again following the third and final season of Dead to Me, which premiered on Netflix in November 2022.

“Right now, I couldn’t imagine getting up at 5 a.m. and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set; I don’t have that in me at this moment," she explained to the Los Angeles Times, back in February 2023.
