Dunelm
Dunelm in Willenhall will be hiring a seasonal sales assistant to cope with the Christmas rush. No doubt, some shoppers will be loading up on household knick-knacks and smelly stuff for Christmas presents. Or some might use their winter break to spruce up the house a bit for those family get-togethers.
Either way, the shop will be expecting a busy Christmas and that’s where the extra help comes in. The advert is asking for a minimum of 20 hours per week from September 2024 until February 2025 .
The hours will be spread across the week but will include at least one evening and a Saturday or Sunday shift, requiring a lot of flexibility. Wages sit at £6.72 - £7.10 per hour for 16-17 yr olds and £11.44 - £11.55 per hour for 18 and over.
The Perfume Shop
The Perfume Shop in West Orchards shopping centre is looking for a “fragrance enthusiast with a flair for people” to help out over the holidays
As a Christmas Sales Assistant, they’re looking for someone to “spread some holiday cheer and help us deliver the perfect service for our customers” as they rush in to load up on fragrances, be they expensive gifts or stocking stuffers.
“Becoming part of our dedicated store team, you’re customer focused, can handle the festive rush and enjoy working as part of a team,” the advert says.
The pay rate is £8.10 - £12 per hour. A good shout for those looking for some high-end retail experience.
Santa
If the notion of being the big man himself piques your interest, you could be the local Santa at this Allesley pub. As Santa at the White Lion pub, it’ll be on you to spread festive cheer and create memories families treasure forever. “You’ll bring the magic to Breakfast with Santa, delivering gifts and putting smiles on faces with your joyous personality,” the advert asks.
Minimum requirements include being “fully suited, booted and seated in the grotto ready to greet children with your festive cheer, deliver the gifts from Santa with a sprinkle of Christmas magic, always be happy to be in a photos” and to “add liberal sprinkle of “ho..ho..ho..Merry Christmas!” throughout the day.
If that sounds like a bit of you, the job could be yours, pending relevant DBS checks. And best of all, you’re entitled to a 33% discount on certain meals.
Costa
So you won't be making Viennese espressos or setting the world on fire at Costa. That said, Barista experience has major upsides.
For one, the ubiquity of cafes across the country means you're guaranteed to find something if you're between jobs. Secondly, it's one of the most transferable skills if you want to travel overseas. If you know how to make coffee in Coventry, you can do it in Vancouver, Sydney, or Berlin.
For £12 to £13 per hour, Costa is looking for a barista for their Arena Retail Park branch. The advert states the job is "about perfecting latte art, creating experiences that put a smile on people's faces, and proudly making greatness every day."
They also ask that applicants are "a multi-tasker with a can-do attitude and not afraid to take on a challenge, a perfectionist dedicated to delivering excellence", and "a people person and team player, who can strike up a good conversation."
It's a way to get started with the skills to fund an overseas adventure or a summer at home. Either way, making a decent coffee could be a good skill to acquire.
Hotel Chocolat
Down in Leamington, Hotel Chocolat has an opening for selling posh chocolates over the Christmas season. The shop states that "Christmas starts early here at Hotel Chocolat and we need you - a confident, focused, and friendly Christmas Sales Advisor to join our store team at Leamington Spa Store on an 8 hours contract and help us bring joy to our customers this Christmas by helping us deliver a truly special experience during our busiest time of year."
They're looking for a "cheerful personality who will enjoy interacting with our customers to share a love of great chocolate, ensuring everyone leaves us feeling happier and full of festive spirit having picked the perfect gift for their loved ones."
The wages are £12 per hour and they say no prior retail experience is required. Responsibilities include welcoming customers, till and queue management, running tasting sessions and demonstrations of products, and working with the team to support with deliveries and stock.
For a first foray into retail, it's an option for something more high end than your standard chains.
TK Maxx
Another retail assistant role, this time at TK Maxx. Clothing is usually a big ticket item at Christmas and with the cost of living crisis biting, TK Maxx will be a popular destination for those looking for a cheaper option.
The shop in Foleshill is looking for a retail assistant, with the advert promising "you'll be part of a close-knit team. From your very first day with us, you'll be welcomed as part of our retail family.
"This is also a great learning environment. Our stock changes by the day, and we like to make sure our Retail Associates get plenty of variety too. You might be on the cash registers one moment, guiding customers on the shop floor the next."
"We'll give you the guidance and support you need to feel ready for every situation and, if you do well, you'll always be welcomed back when opportunities arise. There may even be the chance to join us on a permanent basis, and develop a career with us further down line."
HSL Chairs
Finally, HSL Chairs is looking for a seasonal retail assistant to lend a hand in the world of furniture. Given these are bigger ticket items where customers can be spending thousands of pounds, the shop is asking for staff to go above and beyond your usual shop.
Some of the responsibilities include "offering a fantastic service from the start, including opening doors for customers, taking umbrellas to the car if it’s raining, and making refreshments." They also want someone to share knowledge about the "wellbeing benefits of feel good furniture."
They also want staff to take customers through their exclusive chair fitting service, enabling them to find the right furniture for them, as well as "having an eye for detail to assist the customer with creating their dream furniture, from fabrics, leathers and styling options which will make their furniture not only feel good but look great too."
On top of that. helping to keep the showroom and products looking their best by ensuring that they are clean, fresh and welcoming and "ensuring that customers are happy by creating a welcoming and friendly space."
It'll be busy over Christmas as many use the winter break to give their homes a refresh. While they ask for prior retail experience, they also offer extensive training both in store and at their training facility in Yorkshire.
