A Cambuslang man who describes himself as a “big kid” has lit up his house raise money for Glasgow Children’s Hospital.

Jack Morrison moved into the house in Woodland Crescent with is dad five years ago, they had previously lived in a flat most of their lives.

But since moving in they have been building up the Christmas lights each year and now their home is the “brightest in the street”.

The lights have brought some Christmas cheer to the street in previous years, and the 24-year-old and his dad decided this year they would try to spread that joy to help children who may be spending the festive period in hospital.

“Me and my dad are big kids when it comes to Christmas lights and we’d lived in a flat for most of our lives,” Jack told Glasgow Live.

“So when we moved here five years ago it started, and it’s built up – now it’s got quite big. People are always coming to look at it to say how amazing it is.

“It gets a lot of attention with it getting shared on Facebook, with loads of people saying they’re going to see it. Every year we’re the brightest house in the street.

Parents have been bringing their children along to see the illuminations, and with both Cairns Primary and St Cadoc’s Primary schools in the immediate vicinity there are plenty of admiring looks from small faces.

“We’ve got two primary schools across the road so you always get little kids coming over and pointing at it and looking all happy, all they’re families come with them too," said Jack. "It’s just nice seeing everyone coming to look at them and being happy”.

The Christmas display, which will be switched on every night until December 26 from 5pm to 10pm, has the approval of Jack's neighbours.

He continued: “The neighbours always come and chat when we’re decorating because it takes hours to do, they’ve all been saying we’ve outdone ourselves this year. They say they love opening their blinds knowing it’ll light up in the evening.”

The caring Cambuslang man, who works as a desk engineer with BT Openreach, has set up a JustGiving online fundraiser for the children’s hospital and there’s also a bucket for donations in the garden

He added: “Christmas is all about giving and they do such amazing work for the kids.”
