What do you do when you're trapped inside the face and under the haircut of Tommy Shelby? Cillian Murphy has hit on a radical plan which protects him from being pestered by fans, and transforms him from being Tommy Shelby to being the still very famous Cillian Murphy with slightly longer hair.

"I try to wear my hair longer if I can manage depending on what work I’m doing, so that helps a bit," he told the Scottish Sun."It’s when you get the haircut that people start shouting at you. When I don't have the haircut, I can get the bus quite unmolested."

It's still pretty remarkable that Murphy can get the bus, given how big Peaky Blinders has become in the last few years or so. Even he's surprised.

"I’m just constantly surprised how Peaky Blinders continues to grow," he said. "Sometimes with these longform shows they tend to plateau, or dip, for a season, but Peaky seems to have incrementally gotten stronger and I’m really proud of that."

Getting out of Tommy Shelby's head is easy enough, as long as you've got that German caffeine shampoo to speed things along, but getting back in there is a tricky business, Murphy said.

"Apart from the four months we spend shooting the series there’s also the journey to get there — it takes about six weeks prepping for the show, there’s the time involved getting into the physicality of Tommy, the accent, the voice — everything that I need to be able to inhabit the character."
