Cincinnati Zoo's Baby Hippo Exercises and Tests Her Speed

The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens’ prematurely-born hippopotamus Fiona took some time swimming in an exercise pool before testing her speed. The zoo posted these videos on Friday, April 7.

Fiona was born six weeks early in January and has been in the zoo staff’s care, away from her parents, since then as she grows and develops. She’s reached 130 pounds, according to the zoo’s blog, up from her birth rate of 29 pounds.

This isn’t Fiona’s first go around water. On Wednesday, April 5, she discovered a new toy – a sprinkler – and enjoyed a hose spray last month. Credit: YouTube/Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens via Storyful
