Cincinnati Zoo's Prematurely-Born Hippo Celebrates Three Months

The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens’ prematurely-born hippopotamus turned three months old on Monday, April 24. The zoo celebrated by sharing “day in the life” videos of Fiona on its Instagram and Snapchat accounts.

Fiona was born six weeks early in January at 29 pounds, well below the normal 55-110 pound birth weight for hippos, and couldn’t walk. She took her first steps in early February and weighed in at 166 pounds last week. The zoo is preparing Fiona for a reunion with her parents by spending time outside and meeting zoo visitors.
