Eliminated The Circle contestant Busayo Twins has hit back at trolls who have targeted her over her decision to enter the show as 'Josh'.

The 24-year-old was blocked this week, having decided to play as a middle-class white man rather than herself, predicting that she would do better that way.

"White men earn respect sooner than women and people of colour, and tend to find romance on TV shows much easier than a black woman would," she said at the time.

However, her aim to highlight an issue got somewhat lost amid a number of trolls online, who accused her of a 'vendetta against white people'.

Following her exit a few days ago, Busayo has now taken to Twitter to thank supportive fans, while also remaining defiant against the detractors.

"Thank you for all your kind words and support," she wrote. "You know me, even one good word can keep me well. Means a lot. It really is just a game at the end of the day but real life still exists.

"In real life we move, and we rise so don't feel upset for me because I'm proud of the conversation we started and the people we rightfully rattled just by entering.

"Some people will spend more time trolling people who dare to highlight an issue than being outraged by the issue itself which is the kind of ignorance we can thank God we don't suffer from.

"Speaking of which let me catch up on Brexit, my passions and my hobbies. Take care of yourself and remember, it's just a game which I was clearly not very good at."

Meanwhile, we have written about how the Twitter hate over Busayo's decision to play as 'Josh' proves her point about racism.

The Circle airs on Channel 4.
