The Circle's Jack and Beth are not really getting the hang of this catfishing thing.
To catch casual viewers up, the two were individual players until they were blocked by The Circle last week – at which time they were forced to play together as a 62-year-old woman named Joyce.
'Joyce' has been in trouble practically since she first entered The Circle, having been tripped up by Woody when she claimed to have gone to Reading Festival but couldn't name the acts.
This came back to haunt Jack and Beth in Wednesday's episode (October 9) because Woody previously shared his suspicions about 'Joyce' with Ella.
Ella decided to do some detective work of her own by opening a private chat with 'Joyce' to revisit the topic of Reading Festival.
"F**k off with this Reading Fest shit," Jack complained to Beth in their flat.
Once again, the question of who headlined the festival came up, with Jack and Beth stalling to figure out who they could mention.
"We could have just blagged someone like Roy Orbison, who is an old act that plays a lot of festivals," Jack argued.
Roy Orbison was definitely legendary enough to headline Reading, if not for one teeeeny problem: the singer-songwriter died 31 years ago!
Viewers were chuckling at Jack's near-bungling of the answer:
Really wish they’d went with Roy Orbison imagine the reaction if Tim was like “but he’s been dead 30 years hun???” #TheCircle— JD (@Jonny_Dodds) October 9, 2019
You’d have had a hard job seeing Roy Orbison at Reading last year given he’s been dead since 1988... 😂 #TheCircle— Lisafer Magpie 🦅 (鸟丽莎) | 34 🇬🇧✈️🇦🇺 (@birdy87) October 9, 2019
Made me night that jack thought Roy Orbison was still alive #TheCircle— M (@MariaPurdy) October 9, 2019

In the end, Jack and Beth stopped short of telling Ella they'd seen the late Roy. Instead, they bungled it by finally answering that Joyce couldn't remember anyone she'd seen.
All of the dissension between Jack and Beth made Ella suspicious about why 'Joyce' was taking so long to answer her questions. In their flat, Jack was upset that Beth was ignoring his input into the 'Joyce' character.
"You wear the trousers," he complained. "You're the driver and I'm the passenger."
We'll find out if their dysfunction costs 'Joyce' her spot in the game tomorrow, when the results of the latest blocking are revealed! If so, it'll be off to Roy's next gig...
The Circle continues on Thursday (October 10) at 10pm on Thursday.
