Residents leave flowers and handwritten notes for strangers to cheer them up

Residents of a town are carrying out random acts of kindness to cheer people up.

Flowers and inspiring handwritten notes have been left around Cirencester in Gloucester as part of a project to spread happiness.

Mum Laura Date was left smiling after finding a bouquet while out with her kids this week, the BBC reported.

She said: “It just made us smile. It's such a selfless and kind act.”

Date added: “It's a really warm community and this is an example of the kindness we have found here.”

The Cirencester Kindness Project was launched on 6 November when the organiser Jenny Webster left some flowers near New Brewery Arts.

She was inspired after her sister found a random gift in London.

Webster added: "I've dropped off three bunches of flowers, but it doesn't have to be flowers, it can be anything.

"Two recipients got in touch and sent me pictures. It's really lovely to hear the stories and discover who finds them.

"It makes a difference, especially in these times when we really need cheering up.”

Another person in Cirencester who found flowers decided to give their own bouquet to a woman using a mobility scooter nearby.

Webster has encouraged other people to get involved in the project to help spread joy.

Residents can share images of the acts of kindness they make or find by tagging the Cirencester Kindness Project on social media.

The Cirencester Kindness Project Facebook page says: “Make Someone’s day. In a time which can seem a little bleak, let's sprinkle a little Joy!

“Join the project, leave something special for a stranger to make them smile 💐 Tag us we would love to see what you come up with.”
