A city centre restaurant have issued an update after a fire occurred outside the venue. The blaze took place at The Botanist bar and restaurant in Liverpool ONE at 9pm on Tuesday, November 12 when one of the venue's heated outdoor umbrellas went up in flames in the garden area.

The table, bench and umbrella were damaged by the fire and have been cordoned off with rope while the venue investigates the cause. The Botanist confirmed to the ECHO that no members of the public or staff were hurt in the incident.

The restaurant will be open as usual today (Wednesday) and the general garden and outdoor seating area will also remain open to the public. The venue's general manager, Paul Portugal, told the ECHO the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

The venue's umbrellas have electric systems at their core and the remaining umbrellas around the garden area have been switched off as a precaution.

The fire was contained in one small area of the garden despite the umbrella's reach. The Botanist opened in Liverpool ONE in January this year.

The bar and restaurant took over the venue previously known as The Clubhouse which are both managed under the parent company, New World Trading Company.
