Civilians Evacuated From Village Near Soledar

Seven Ukrainian civilians, including a woman with reduced mobility and a five-year-old girl, were evacuated by volunteers on January 13 from a village near the besieged town of Soledar, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported.

Footage by RFE/RL’s Ukrainian service shows the evacuation in the village of Paraskoviivka, roughly eight kilometers (five miles) from Soledar, where fierce fighting was taking place.

RFE/RL said the volunteers travel by night to help avoid coming under heavy shelling, which they say happens during the day.

On January 11, the head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko said Russian forces had killed a civilian in Paraskoviivka.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense said Russian forces had gained control of Soledar on the evening of January 12. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said the following day that fighting was continuing in the city. Credit: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty via Storyful
