Claire Holland: Police begin search for Bristol woman who went missing nine years ago

Police have launched a search for a woman who disappeared in Bristol nine years ago.

Claire Holland was last seen at the Seamus O'Donnell's pub in St Nicholas Street on the evening of 6 June 2012 - the day after the Queen's Diamond Jubilee weekend.

Her family reported her missing eight days later.

Police believe the 32-year old from Lawrence Weston was the victim of a crime.

A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of her murder in 2019 and remains under investigation.

Several "intelligence-led" targeted searches are taking place in and around the Bristol area over the next few days, Avon and Somerset Police said.

Footage has been released of Ms Holland on the day she vanished as part of a renewed appeal for information.

"CCTV shows Claire walking along Baldwin Street heading towards the Seamus O'Donnell's pub at around 21.30 BST on Wednesday, 6 June, but we don't have any footage showing where she went afterwards," said senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Darren Hannant.

Staff at the pub told police she left the establishment that evening at about 11.15pm, just after closing time.

She could have headed in the direction of the Fountains, near the Harbourside - but police said they have reviewed more than 1,000 hours of CCTV footage and have been unable to spot her.

The searches, some of which will involve a specialist dive team, will start in parts of the city centre and move to other areas throughout the week.

"Claire had no known reason to go missing of her own accord and had made plans for the week following her disappearance," Det Insp Hannant said.

He said her family is being kept up to date on the progress of the investigation, adding: "We're committed to providing them with the answers they need."

Ms Holland is described as white, 5ft tall, with a slim build and shoulder-length brown hair, which was sometimes tied back in a ponytail.

Police are using social media to contact all of those who were Facebook friends with Ms Holland in 2012.

They also want to speak to everyone who was in the pub on the evening she disappeared.

Anyone who knew Ms Holland, thinks they may have seen her on 6 June or has relevant information has been urged to contact police.
