An inquest into the death of Claire Lomas, a Leicestershire charity campaigner and Paralympic torch bearer, has opened. The 44-year-old died following an accident in Jordan in the Middle East on Thursday, August 22.

Claire, 44, from Melton, was known for her fund-raising efforts, including being the first paralysed person to complete the London Marathon in a robotic suit. She raised more than £1 million for charity through various challenges.

Assistant coroner Isobel Thistlethwaite opened the inquest on Wednesday, September 11. The hearing, held in Loughborough, was told that Claire's body was identified by her husband, Daniel Spincer.

The details of the accident in Jordan last month have not yet been made public. In July, Claire said she was taking part in "one of my most daunting challenges to date for a filming production team".

Mum-of-two Claire became paralysed from the chest down after a horse riding accident in 2007. She lit the Olympic cauldron for the Paralympic Games in 2012.

The inquest was adjourned until Monday, November 25.
